A hoop kit is the perfect way to learn embroidery. 

They're designed to be accessible to everyone including beginners or people who may be a bit out of practice, and include everything you need in the box. The design is pre-printed on the fabric so it's super easy to sew on top of and cover up as you go.

As with adults, it depends on the child! If they have some degree of patience and an interest in arts and crafts, they should do well. I've seen children as young as 7 really enjoy getting 'in the zone' with one of my kits. (Bear in mind they'll be using a needle so might need a little supervision while they get the hang of it)
